Finding golf instruction
One-on-one lessons with a golf pro are great if you can afford it. They are going to run anywhere from $60 to $100 per hour. Don’t get me wrong - if you have the budget this is a great investment! For myself, when I was starting out, this seemed like a big leap. Here’s what I did instead…
As a beginner I recommend starting with a group-instruction format.
Why? It’s more cost effective: there are some great beginner programs in the Cincinnati area (and outside too, scroll down!) where for under $200, you can enroll in a 4 week series covering several aspects of the game. With these programs, sometimes the course will have multiple golf pros teaching so you will get exposed to different styles of instruction. In addition, you’ll learn from listening to other people’s questions and observing other participants in your group. You also have the opportunity to meet other newbies this way!
Great Parks of Hamilton County Golf Courses
In 2021, I took a 4 part series at Little Miami Golf Center in Newtown, OH. I was able to convince my dear friend and neighbor Amanda to join me for moral support. She decided she prefers tennis - and that’s OK - but I was fully hooked after these sessions were completed. There were 10 of us in the class and one golf pro. I learned SUCH great fundamentals and this series gave me a solid foundation to build on. These are not exclusively for women, but they are adult beginner lessons.
Great Parks has 6 golf courses, so check out their website for the full list: https://www.greatparks.org/recreation/golf
Go to the course you are interested in, and look for “Lessons” > “Adult Lessons”
Here are the direct links to signup for Great Parks Golf beginner clinic series:

What if I’m not in Cincinnati?
Search for a local LPGA Amateurs Chapter in your area. For most events, you have to be a member of your local LPGA Amateurs chapter. However they may have some beginner clinics which are open to non-members. These would normally occur in the early spring March/April/May timeframe.
Check out if there is a Fore the Ladies clinic happening near you. Fore the Ladies is a non-profit which hosts clinics and other golf events which are run by volunteers all over the country.
LPGA Amateurs and Fore the Ladies are both non-profit organizations that rely on volunteers - so if you don’t see a chapter or an event - YOU can reach out to these organizations and start a chapter or create an event and tap into their awesome resources for support!!!
Check with your local Parks & Recreation department. You may find some good public group instruction programs.
Each year, the first week of June is Women’s Golf Day and you may find some free events there as well.
Finally, call the public golf course closest to you and inquire about lessons with one of the golf professionals. Sometimes you can book a lesson for you and a friend at the same time - so then you split the instruction fee. You only get technically half the time with the pro if the time is divided across the two of you, but this is a great option for you and a friend if your golf pro will do this. I wouldn’t recommend buying a multiple-lesson series package until you have met with the pro once or twice and feel as though the tips and instruction are helping you improve. Each golf pro has a different style, and you should feel comfortable with it!
Thanks for reading my recommendations. I want to hear from YOU!
Shoot me an email queencitylinksladies@gmail.com to let me know if you have taken one of the clinics I recommend or if you were able to volunteer or find instruction through LPGA Amateurs or Fore The Ladies.
