Your Masters Watch Party Guide: Recipes, Decorations, and a Free Download That Will Make You the Ultimate Host
The azaleas are blooming at Augusta National, Rory McIlroy is defending his green jacket, and I am already planning what snacks to make while I watch every single minute of it.
Golf hits differently when you actually play it. I notice the shots now. I feel the nerves. I understand what it means to stand over a ball with pressure on — even if my pressure is a ladies' league round and not Sunday at Augusta.
If you want to host a Masters watch party and make it feel like an actual event, this is your guide. Decorations, food, the Azalea cocktail recipe, and a free download to keep your guests entertained all weekend.
Let's do this.
The Colors: Keep It Simple and Stunning
The Masters color palette is emerald green, butter yellow, and hot pink — and you only need those three to nail the look.
Start with an emerald green tablecloth as your base. Add yellow flowers as a centerpiece — sunflowers from the grocery store are perfect and completely on theme. Then layer in hot pink accents: plates, napkins, streamers, or a small bunch of pink flowers tucked into your arrangement.
A few fun extras: print a small green jacket image to use as a centerpiece card, set up a mini chalkboard "leaderboard" where guests can write their winner predictions, and grab some golf tee cocktail skewers from Amazon — they are adorable and ridiculously affordable.
The Menu
The Famous Pimento Cheese Sandwiches
These are the Masters. The sandwiches have been sold at Augusta for decades and they are legendary. Here is a version you can make at home.
1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
4 oz cream cheese, softened
¼ cup Duke's mayonnaise
1 jar (4 oz) pimentos, drained and finely chopped
½ tsp garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste
White sandwich bread, crusts removed
Mix the cheddar, cream cheese, and mayo until smooth. Stir in the pimentos and seasoning. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes, then spread on white bread and cut into triangles. That chill time matters — it brings everything together.
Not a pimento cheese person? Egg salad finger sandwiches are the perfect alternative.
The Azalea Cocktail
Augusta National's signature cocktail is a gorgeous pink drink that looks like spring in a glass — and it takes about two minutes to make.
1½ oz vodka
3 oz pink lemonade
1 oz pineapple juice
Splash of grenadine
Ice, plus a maraschino cherry or lemon slice to garnish
Fill a glass with ice, add everything, give it a gentle stir. The grenadine creates a beautiful pink gradient. For a non-alcoholic version, just skip the vodka — still delicious.
For a crowd, mix the lemonade, pineapple juice, and grenadine in a big pitcher and set up a little Azalea Bar where guests can build their own. It photographs so well and gets everyone involved.
Round Out the Spread
Arnold Palmers, deviled eggs, green jacket cupcakes with green frosting, and anything featuring Georgia peaches all earn bonus points. Keep it Southern, keep it simple.
Keep Everyone Entertained: Free Masters Bingo Cards
Here is my favorite Masters party trick: Masters Bingo.
I created free downloadable Masters Bingo cards designed to keep everyone on the edge of their seat — even the guests who do not follow golf closely.
"Player pumps fist."
"Amen Corner drama."
"Commentator whispers."
"Someone's family is on camera."
You do not have to know every player's name. You just have to watch.
Print them out, use coins or markers as chips, and pick a simple prize for the winner. It gets even the most golf-skeptical person in the room completely invested.
One Quick Masters Fact to Share
No golfer who has won the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday has ever gone on to win the Masters that same year. It is an unofficial law of Augusta. So when you watch Wednesday afternoon, keep that in your back pocket — whoever wins the Par 3 Contest, do not put your money on them for Sunday.
While You're Here
If watching this tournament every year gives you that little flicker of I kind of want to try this — that feeling is not crazy. It is not too late. You do not have to be a certain kind of person to play golf.
